Slam dunk win for Westville Boys’ High School

Westville Boys' High School took on Clifton School in an action packed basketball clash at the weekend.

SPECTATORS were captivated as Westville Boys’ High School took on Clifton School in an action-packed basketball match on Saturday.

Westville’s Phakade Mchunu won the tip-off and started Westville with possession.

With great offensive plays from Liam Nossiter, Luntu Kili and Ethan Brooke, Westville built a comfortable lead in the first quarter as they scored inside the paint as well as their outside shots.

On the opposite end of the court, great defensive play from Westville saw Clifton struggle to put numbers on the board.

Westville came into the second quarter with the same high intensity and made great offensive decisions as they prioritised their points from inside the paint as opposed to shooting the ball.

Westville’s Kian Botha was injured and was taken off the court for the the rest of the game. Westville went into half time with a comfortable 11-point lead.

The third quarter saw a slight shift in momentum as Clifton slowly grew back into the game and brought the lead down to four points. Westville changed up their defence and they regained their dominant lead.

Clifton grew frustrated and this lead them into foul and placed Westville Boys on the free throw line for a long part of the second quarter. Unfortunately Westville struggled to capitalise from the free throws, which would have grown their lead. The local team ended the third quarter with a nine-point lead.

The fourth quarter saw Clifton make both inside and outside shots in succession and they slowly cut into Westville’s lead. Great leadership from Liam Nossiter allowed Westville to maintain an advantage over Clifton until the end of the game. Westville claimed a 52 – 46 win.
