Kearsney rakes in victories

The school's cricket, basketball, and tennis teams continued to bring in wins for the school at the weekend.

Cricket:

Kearsney College’s 1st X1 cricket side arrived at Goldstones to take on a highly competent Maritzburg College 1st XI in a 45 over encounter.

Kearsney lost the toss and were put in to bat. The formidable duo of Simelane and Mbatho had Kearsney’s batters under pressure. Louis Nel was the first to go as he was hooked in the first over, before a run had been scored.

Dylan Hulett (48), and Jean-Luc Talbot (19) put on a gritty display of patience in an attempt to tame the pace and aggression of the opening quicks. Talbot was dismissed softly and captain Cade Carmichael strode to the wicket to bat.

With Hulett back in the hut, Carmichael was joined at the wicket by Jared Uys who hooked, chipped and swept his way to a crucial 39. Thomas Constable joined Carmichael at the crease (10*) and Kearsney completed the innings on a credible 208/4, with Carmichael’s majestic 81*.

Tight bowling from the spinners and three seamers, with excellent fielding, made it difficult for College to make significant inroads and they lost wickets at regular intervals. College was eventually all out for 111. Kearsney won by 97 runs

On Friday, Kearsney’s U15A side was involved in a Momentum Cup Friendship 20-over match against Chatsworth Hub on the Smith Oval. The match was held under the auspices of Cricket South Africa. Kearsney won the toss and elected to bat first. Kearsney won by 28 runs
