Hill aims for fourth crown

The Upper Highway athlete is excited to return to the South Coast to defend his title in the Sappi Scottburgh MTB and Trail Run Weekend.

ONE of the Sappi Scottburgh MTB and Trail Run Weekend champions, Andrew Hill, has signed up to defend his title in the 45km MTB marathon on Sunday, 21 July.

The experienced rider from the Upper Highway area will aim for his fourth consecutive win at this year’s race.

“We don’t really get to ride down there very often, so that is always a draw card for me,” he said.

“There is not a lot of racing down there, aside from the sani2c, so the trail network is unique in that aspect. Flavio (Scarpa) is so passionate about mountain biking and is always trying to add in new sections of track.”

The track down at the South Coast has got something for everyone and Hill believes that it is a bit of track that riders need to ride.

“There are some big climbs to start and if you keep a good pace you will be rewarded,” he explained. “It appeals to so many different types of riders. The race takes place at the perfect time of the year.”

In the build up to the 45km marathon, he will race in the Imana Wild Ride along the Wild Coast before he takes his shot at a fourth consecutive Scottburgh crown.
