Hillcrest Villagers snap up triple victory

The Land Rover Durban - Hillcrest Villagers' Rugby Club has continued to dominate its division.

THE Land Rover Durban – Hillcrest Villagers’ Rugby Club put another three wins under its belt in last week’s KZNRU Club Rugby’s encounters.

Turaco/Envirosan Hillcrest – Villagers’ 3rd XV travelled to Queensburgh on Thursday evening. In a torrential downpour, the Villagers’ pushed through the Queensburgh pack to lead 12 – 0.

As the rain subsided, so did the Villagers’ control and the first half turned into a scrappy affair with poor discipline that affected both sides. Half time saw a change in the Villagers’ approach and, once settled, the team dominated the second half and scored another 47 unanswered points.

The Villagers’ 2nd half display showed great structure, excellent handling and superb support play. Man of the Match went to Ruben Goosen (forwards) and Jono Hammond (backs).

Villagers 1st XV took on a tough Dophins XV as the visitors threw everything they had at the local side. Hillcrest spun the ball wide and opened up gaps. With some brilliant passages of play in the second half, the local lads ran out as the deserved victors with a 25 – 10 win. Man of the Match went to Tommy Bezuidenhout (backline) and Kyle Spowart (forwards).
