Take Thomas More College’s walk in your stride

Walkers can choose between the 25km and the 80km option when signing up to take part in Thomas More College's annual Long Walk.

THOMAS More College will host its 57th 80km Long Walk on Saturday, 16 March and invites everyone to sign up and take part.

As one of the longest standing traditions of the school, it has taken place every year since 1963 and everyone from Grade 1 to matric participates in this proud tradition.

“For each child the walk is an opportunity to develop perseverance, grit and to stretch them to rise to life’s challenges. Every child is encouraged to start the walk – whether they do 3, 15 or 80km, these are personal goals each learner sets for themselves. The walk (not a run/race) is a non-profit event, which focuses on esprit de corps.

“Over the years, we have had a wonderful response from the community who have participated in the Long Walk,” said the school’s admissions and marketing co-ordinator, Juliet Hartley.

The entry cost for visitors and clubs are R330 for the 25km (starts at 7.30am) and R440 for the 55km/80km (starts at 1am).

Registration will take place at Thomas More College on Thursday, 14 and Friday, 15 March from noon until 6pm. The number of walkers is limited, and entry is on a first- come-first-served basis.
