Thrills and spills at inter-club BMX final in Queensburgh

Lines were drawn in the sand of the BMX tracks as the year of racing got off to a great start with club racers settling old scores and laying out challenges in the final inter-club meet.

OVERCAST conditions and a few drops of rain didn’t dampen the spirits of riders or club supporters at Queensburgh BMX Track on Sunday when the third and final leg of the interclub champs took place.

Despite a late start, the racing went smoothly with each of the three races before the finals, seeming to rush by as fast as the riders on the track who were looking in good shape.

A few tumbles off bikes didn’t halt proceedings much and there were no serious mishaps, but plenty of competitive racing between riders who have been coming up against each other over the past two legs of the inter-club champs this month.

The first leg was raced at Giba on Saturday 2 February, the second leg at the home track of the 2018 champs, Pietermaritzburg, with Queensburgh hosting the final leg which would ultimately decide the outcome of the hotly contested champs.

At the end of the day’s racing, both trophies went back to Pietermaritzburg with Queensburgh’s A team being only five points shy of being the winners.

Sunday, 3 March will see the first leg of the KZN points racing at Queensburgh BMX Club.
