WBHS basketball team turns the tide on Hilton

It proved to be a hotly contested affair with Westville running to a 21 – 13 lead at the end of the first quarter.

THE Griffins hosted Hilton recently and there was much speculation over the main game of the day whereby both teams would put their Stayers’ Teams to the test.

Hilton’s first team were outright winners in term one, but the Westville outfit is now made up of a highly motivated and talented group of young men who were more than ready to get some retribution.

It proved to be a hotly contested affair with Westville running to a 21 – 13 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Westville’s scoring ability seemed to happen fairly easily and Hilton needed to work hard to find the opposite hoop. Westville continued their motion offense in the second quarter and had a decent 42 – 29 lead at the half.

The strength of Westville’s bench was clearly evident and Hilton switched up their defense and offence in the third quarter. The home side found themselves in foul trouble early on and Hilton seemed to be mimicking Westville’s offence. Hilton outscored Westville by just one point in the third and this took the two teams to just 12 points between the two of them.

Hilton again ran their rush offense and Westville were caught on the back foot on a few occasions. A few careless fouls saw Hilton back in, with 4 of Westville’s starters all fouled out of the game.

There was a momentum swing and Hilton seemed to be the team ahead, despite Westville maintaining a 12-point lead. Another careless foul saw Westville having to finish the game with 4 players on the court.

A quick time-out and a tactical change saw Westville retain possession and continue to score, despite being a player down for at least half of the final quarter of the game. After winning all four quarters, WBHS took the game 71-61.
