Bikers prepare for foot up trials

Take your family to the Killarney 4x4 track to watch some of SA's top tricksters compete in the foot up trials.

ROUND 3 and 4 of the South African trials/foot-ups championships will be held at Killarney 4×4 in Shongweni Valley on Saturday, 4 and Sunday, 5 August from 10am.

Killarney is a magic venue for this event with some large rocks and river sections which makes for spectacular and gravity defying riding, all of which you will be able to view as it is in easy walking distance.

Riders from across South Africa, past and present, will be taking part.

Local Kloof rider, Devon Mackenzie, will have to be on top form to keep up with the country’s best.

There are no age restrictions in the trials and there will be riders ranging from seven to 70 years old.

“Trials is a sport of skill and a large chunk of courage. Speed doesn’t really come into it,” said chairman of the KZN Trials Club, Colin Hayward.

Demarcated areas are cordoned off and different coloured flags are used to indicate the different levels of difficulty of the section.

The object is to complete a section without putting your feet down. The rider who puts their feet down the least is the winner of their class.

There are 12 sections per lap and the riders must complete four laps per day. The four of riding skill include clubman (beginners), intermediate, experts and pro-elite.

“You will be amazed at what these bikes and riders can do,” said Colin

Entry is R80 per adult per day, R40 per child, and children under five years old enter for free.

All amenities and refreshments are available on site. Contact Colin on 084 404 7152.
