Westville crush DHS 11-0 in clinical performance

The team kept pushing for more and they found themselves creating more and more chances.

WESTVILLE Boys’ High School’s 1st hockey team continued their great form with another big victory against rivals DHS, following a 4-1 win against St Benedicts and 2-1 against Hilton.

This game was the second of a doubleheader against DHS, with WBHS taking the game 11-2 in the first clash.

The first half started at a good tempo with Westville nearly breaking the deadlock after a minute with a cracking back stick that rattled the DHS goal from Caleb Carney.

The deadlock was broken quickly after that with Keegan Gibbon rattling a shot past the goalkeeper.

The away side continued pushing in the early stages and scored another goal courtesy of some inspired interplay from Caleb Carney and Joshua Davies to put home Mazwi Meyiwa.

Westville continued to apply pressure with Keegan Gibbon ruthlessly putting two more goals past the stranded keeper, Caleb Carney rounded up the scoring in the first half with a well-taken flick from the penalty corner to make it 5-0.

The second half started a good tempo once again with Keegan Gibbon adding his fourth and the team’s sixth of the day.

Westville didn’t let up and continued to push for more goals with Caleb Carney pulling the strings up front, the visitors found themselves piling on the pressure which resulted in another well-taken finish from striker Mazwi Meyiwa to make the score 7-0.

The team kept pushing for more and they found themselves creating more and more chances, with Brandon McCabe grabbing a well-taken deflection and Aidan van Rooyen scoring two in quick succession making it 10-0.

The final goal saw Jared Slaney score his first goal for the 1st Team with a great strike into the bottom corner bringing an end to the game which saw the visitors win 11-0.
