Join the herd at Tour Durban

Whether you would like to race, raise funds or volunteer your time, The Cows want YOU!

WITH another big field of serious and social cyclists entered for the aQuellé Tour Durban on Sunday, 29 April, The Cows urge Highway residents to join them on the day either on the road or by lending a helping hand.

Founded 10 years ago by a group of sport enthusiasts committed to raising money for the CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation while taking part in a variety of mass participation sporting events, The Cows have become a feature of the aQuellé Tour Durban.

“We love getting involved with the aQuellé Tour Durban because they have been so good to us over the years,” said convener of The Cows in KZN, Iris Varty.

“It is an event heavily centred around charity and its support for the Domino Foundation, so we really encourage as many people as possible to ride it.”

The Cows will man the water point on the M4 near the hypermarket.

The race has reserved a special batch in the 45km fun ride for supporters of The Cows, who can nominate to start in this batch in the online entry process via Cycle Events.

“The 45km Fun Ride is such a doable race. We really want to see as many moms and dads, brothers and sisters, fit or unfit people on the road. We start together and almost all of us stay together on the road, and the humour and banter along the way is fantastic,” said Varty.

The Cows will also run the fun children’s race at the Moses Mabhida People Park track at 11am on raceday.

The event is aimed at children under 10 years old. Entry is free and children are welcome to ride on any bike or trike, accompanied by their parents if needed. They will each receive a Hubertos ice cream and an aQuellé cold drink at their own dedicated water station.

“Get involved. Be part of something special,” she urged. “Your R50 donation to The Cows makes a difference and you are also supporting the Domino Foundation simply by taking part.”

High school learners wanting to gain voluntary community service hours can get involved with The Cows at the aQuellé Tour Durban, either by helping at a water point or at the children’s race.
