Gear up for 39th Hillcrest marathon

The closing date for entries for the Hillcrest marathon and half marathon is on Sunday, 4 February.

THE Hillcrest Villagers announce that the 39th popular Hillcrest Marathon and Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, 11 February from 5am.

The race starts in Old Main Road, between Hillcrest Corner and Christians Village, and both races will finish at the club’s grounds at the Hillcrest Sports Club.

The marathon will follow the traditional two-lap course through the tree-lined and shaded route into Winston Park.

The picturesque and undulating route is an ideal one for novices and seasoned athletes alike.

The first half of each lap takes the runners gently downhill, followed by a steady but manageable climb back to the start/finish venue.

“The marathon is the first KZN Two Oceans and Comrades Marathon qualifier of 2018, and with this year being our club’s 41st birthday, we are pulling out all the stops to ensure a memorable event,” said Marc Allen.

All finishers of both distances will receive a commemorative moisture management T-shirt and medal. All runners taking part in the marathon will have their qualifying times submitted directly to Comrades Marathon 2018.

Runners can expect top class refreshment tables en route and at the finish, the club’s bar will be open. There will be a mobile coffee stand, physios, a chiropractor, a jumping castle for children and the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust will have a tent with a few of its crafts for sale.

Entries are available at www.championchip.co.za and the closing date for entries is midnight on Sunday, 4 February 2018.
