Kearsney paddler selected for World Champs

Callam Davies qualified to represent SA at the World Champs last week, while participating in the SA Marathon Championships held in Pietermaritzburg.

GRADE 11 paddler Callam Davis of Kearsney College has been selected to represent South Africa in a highly competitive category at the World Marathon Championships next month.

Last week, he participated at the SA Marathon Championships held in Pietermaritzburg.

After a massive disappointment in the K1 event, where he was knocked out of his boat while being in the front group, he came back to win the K2 event.

This qualified him represent South Africa in the World Champs on 8 September.

This is a fantastic achievement as each country is only allocated two boats in each category.

South Africa is arguably the number one ranked country in the world for marathon paddling, and the 2018 SA team includes the current number 1 and 2 in the world.

This puts Callam’s achievement into perspective, as the junior categories are just as competitive. He is only racing his first year in the U18 category.
