QUEENSBURGH resident, hockey player and umpire, Sonika Visser, officiated the SPAR KZN School Girls’ Hockey Challenge finals recently for the sixth time.

During her first tournament as umpire she was named the Most Promising Umpire from the Durban South Regional, and has progressed to becoming one of the most dependable umpires at the tournament.

The Werda School teacher began her umpire career six years ago.

“My hockey career started at Werda when I was in primary school. In 2012 I received the most promising umpire at Durban south regional tournament accolade. SPAR gave me the opportunity to go on my first inter-provincial tournament as an umpire,” she said.

She has been to the U/16 and U/18 tournaments and is currently preparing for the U/21 IPT in September at Potchefstroom.

“I’m grateful to SPAR for seeing the potential in me and supporting me for the last six year of my umpire career,” said Sonika.
