Tyla makes great strides in horse riding

Waterfall College's SPAR Star of the Month - May 2017.

WATERFALL College’s SPAR Star of the Month is Grade 8 learner, Tyla Brown. Tyla has excelled in horse riding. She competed in the Triple P show-jumping competition at Shongweni Club where she was placed in the 80cm class and won the 90cm on her new horse, Capital Spectra.

Parents Michael and Sonja Brown said, “We are so proud of Tyla and her achievements with both her horses. Her dedication to riding and her determination not to allow her hearing impairment to define her, is humbling.”

Tyla started riding with her coach, Karen Boddy, at Karibu Barn when she was 10 years old and she got her first horse, Edelhof Dalmatina in 2014.

Her proudest achievements were winning the Victrix Ludorum at her home yard and completing two Wildcoast Endurance rides of 120km each.

Waterfall College teacher, Shelley Bell, described Tyla as a very kind-hearted and enthusiastic learner.

Principal Jeanette van der Merwe said, “We are delighted at the strides Tyla is making in her schooling and sporting activities.
