Villagers smash Harlequins 73-nil

The local team has a bye this weekend but will take on the Westville Old Boys' in its next, highly anticipated match.

THE Land Rover Durban-Hillcrest Villagers’ Rugby Club continued to pick up their momentum in its first division season by claiming a further two wins.

The Villagers’ hosted their second home game of the season against the Harlequins Rugby Club last Wednesday evening. The 2nd XV recovered their early season form with a well contested 22 – 15 win. Man of the match went to Roben Anderson (forwards) and Tristan Irvine (backs).

The Villagers’ 1st XV scored a flurry of tries and stunned their Bluff opposition with a 73 – 0 whitewash. The team showed exceptional discipline and entertained the large crowd of spectators with an evening of high-tempo running rugby.

At the post match address, head coach Mike de Kock, and 2nd XV coach, Jarred Chiochetti, each complemented their squads on their top performances. The 1st XV man of the match went to Michael Moxley (forwards) and Tinus Schoeman (backs).

The ‘Quins vice chairman, André Hendricks, acknowledged the Villagers’ exceptional performance on the night but warned that the ‘Quins would be far more competitive at their return encounter.

The Villagers 2nd and 1st XV have a well-earned bye this weekend and will play the long awaited Highway Derby against the Westville Old Boys Rugby Club at the Jimmy Bellows Grounds in Westville on Saturday, 13 May at 2pm and 3.30pm respectively.
