Westville holds its own against strong Glenwood

The game ended at a deadlock of 2-2.

WESTVILLE Boys’ High School’s 1st hockey team locked horns with rivals Glenwood in a action-packed match at the weekend.

The game was going to be a real test for Westville as Glenwood had a strong and skillful side.

The game started off with Glenwood enjoying most of the possession and creating a few chances up front with no outcome.

The Westville defense remained calm and handled the situation with ease.

The Glenwood side relied on individual players to make something happen.

The Westville side managed to get possession and created a few chances on the other end.

Glenwood’s defense was tested but Westville could not break the deadlock. The game remained tight and closely contested as it progressed but both sides couldn’t keep possession for long periods of time.

The Glenwood side managed to snatch the opening goal from a far post tap in.

The goal gave Westville a real wake up call and they pushed to get things back on track.

A few youngsters came on to the field for the last 10 minutes and had an immediate impact on the game.

They won a penalty stroke through Joshua Korte who got taken out by the goalkeeper.

The Westville Captain Keagan De Castro stepped up and slotted it in the right hand corner to level out the score.

The Westville side then stepped it up a notch and caused some problems going forward which Glenwood were struggling to deal with and were eventually rewarded with a penalty corner.

The penalty corner was supposed to be a deflection at near post but the goalkeeper made a save and Caleb Carney managed to calmly finish off from the second phase to go 2-1 up.

The Glenwood side remained persistent and eventually were rewarded as they had a run down the right hand side base line and then finished off at far post to put the game at 2-2.

Both sides pushed really hard and created moments of brilliance but couldn’t find the winner and the game ended at a deadlock of 2-2.
