St Mary’s net third place in annual tourney

Sixteen schools from around the country gathered at St Mary's DSG in Kloof to compete for the prestigious tourney title.

ST Mary’s DSG in Kloof hosted an exciting and nail-biting edition of its prestigious annual U16 Hockey Tournament recently.

The 2017 event catered for 16 teams from schools across South Africa and is the largest U16 interschool’s girls hockey tournament in KwaZulu-Natal.

The competition was fierce, with the final being contested by Hoërskool Menlopark and Hoërskool Waterkloof, with Menlopark winning through a sudden death playoff after a 1 – 1 full time score.

St Mary’s DSG finished in third place and in the top KZN position overall.

Its U14A side was the only U14 team in the tournament and finished in seventh place.

The school thanked its sponsors, Gryphon Hockey, Nedbank and 14/Eleven Clothing.

2nd: Hoërskool Waterkloof

3rd: St Mary’s DSG, Kloof

4th: Paarl Gimnasium

5th: Danville Girls High School

6th: Durban Girls High School

7th: St Marys 14A

8th: Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School

9th: Hoërskool Garsfontein

10th: Epworth School

11th: The Wykeham Collegiate

12th: Pretoria High School for Girls

13th: St Annes Diocesan College

14th: St Andrews School for Girls

15th: Hoërskool Jim Fouché

16th: Maris Stella School
