Madfin – Share your fish tales, photos

Introducing a new fishing column, a forum for anglers to share stories and photos; discuss tackle, bait and so on.

Hi, I am G-Man and I am a little obsessed… If you spit on the floor, I will fish in it.

It’s been more than 50 years since my first fish and I cannot stop. I have fished all along the West to the East coast of Africa. A number of islands and a place where good morning is “Hi ya mate ” and I still cannot stop.

I even tried a stint at provincial angling for the Western Province ski boat team and I am still hooked.

I have battled with 100kg plus Yellow Fin tuna and Broad Bill Sword fish in the freezing Atlantic ocean, and still I break out in a cold sweat when someone says, “want to wet the line”.

I have scaled down on to the ledges of Rooikranse at Cape Point to catch Long fin and Yellow fin Tuna, on homemade spoons, where a loose rock could result in certain death.

What a rush! I have even spent days on end in 40 plus degrees temperatures, watching a ball of pap “policeman” attached to my line at a dam, catching overgrown Goldfish (Carp) and still I cannot stop.

Sounds crazy, but now I am even going to remote crocodile filled rivers to catch Tiger, Trout and Yellow fish on my handmade flies and even after picking out giant thorns out of my bloody and swollen feet, I keep dreaming about my next adventure.

I have exhausted my life savings on boats, fishing rods/reels and tackle. I have even eaten the bait because I had forgotten to pack food for myself and I still quiver and shake every time I get a “strike”.

Well, I LOVE FISHING! So deal with it!
