Chad makes history with 100th gold medal

Westville Old Boy, Chad Le Clos shines at Fina World Cup swimming series.

LOCAL Olympian and gold medalist, Chad Le Clos, made history when he won his 100th gold medal at the annual Fina World Cup swimming series, in Dubai, on 5 October.

According to an article posted on SuperSport’s website, Le Clos completed the race in a time of 49.14 in the 100m butterfly and beat Takeshi Kawamoto (Japan) and Pavel Sankovich (Belarus), respectively. Le Clos has also won all four 100m butterfly events so far this season.

Le Clos also competed in the 50m freestyle race and was placed second behind winner Vladimir Morozov of Russia who won in a time of 20.88 seconds.

Following his superb win in Dubai, Le Clos took to his Twitter page and posted a status which read, “Wow, humbled to be the first man to 100 World Cup Gold medals, thank u for the Unbelievable support #teamSA #CleC #100club.”

Stats published on Swimming World’s website revealed that the Westville Boys’High School old boy, who has 107 gold medals in total, won three gold medals in the World Cup in 2009, 23 gold medals in 2011, three in 2012, 24 in 2013, 28 in 2014, 11 in 2015 and 15 already this season. He also won the overall World Cup title three times: in 2011, 2013 and 2014.
