Local karate academy rake in medals at SA JKA Karate Champs

Shin-Gi-Tai Karate Academy won seven gold medals, seven silver medals and 13 bronze medals at the SA JKA Karate Championships recently.

MEMBERS from Shin-Gi-Tai Karate Academy in Hillcrest, recently represented the KZN JKA karate team in the SA JKA Karate Championships.

For most of these karate-ka, it was their first experience at tournament level. The tournament was held over two days, with more than 4000 entries. Shin-Gi-Tai came home with seven gold medals, seven silver medals and 13 bronze medals with young Michael Thompson winning the men’s open kumite division and bringing the trophy back to Durban.

Sensei Gareth Crowe said he was proud of the karate-ka, their outstanding achievements and receiving their SA JKA National colours.
