Kloof High hosts soccer tourney

Investing time and energy in our youth, whether on the sports field or in the classroom, has always been a key philosophy of Kloof High School," said Anil Dukhi.

THE 16th annual largest school tournament in South Africa, the Kloof High School Soccer Tournament Boys U19, was hosted from Thursday, 23 to Sunday, 26 June. The three-day event followed the world cup format with minor changes in the knock-out stages. Three teams from other provinces travelled to KwaZulu-Natal to test their ball skills against teams in the province.

“Investing time and energy in our youth, whether on the sports field or in the classroom, has always been a key philosophy of Kloof High School, so this has been one of the motivations behind the soccer tournament. Last year’s winners, Louis Botha Technical High School from Bloemfontein, will defend their title. Sixty-four schools were invited. Eight schools proceeded to the main tournament of 32 teams from the pre-tournament.

“This tournament is endorsed by SAFA and thanks must go to Dr Robin Petersen, the SAFA development officer, for his assistance in securing the main sponsorship from World Ventures Foundation,” said deputy principal and soccer tournament director, Anil Dukhi.

Hoër Tegniese Skool Louis Botha won the 2016 Kloof High School Soccer Tournament Boys U19 title as well as a cash prize of R20 000, while the runners-up, Pinetown Boys’ High School, won R3 500.
