Dolphins and Hirsch’s continue fruitful innings

Hirsch's will continue to sponsor the Sunfoil Dolphins for another two years.

CRICKET in KwaZulu-Natal has enjoyed a long-standing partnership with home appliance giant, Hirsch’s and the successful partnership will continue to build their innings after the recent confirmation that Hirsch’s has extended its sponsorship of the Sunfoil Dolphins until April 2018.

The family owned, Durban-based home appliance company has now backed the Dolphins for 26 consecutive years. “It has been a proud and long association that we at Hirsch’s have enjoyed with the Dolphins and one that we look forward to continuing over the coming two years,” said Hirsch’s founder and CEO, Allan Hirsch.

“We are a company driven by passion and that passion spills over into the people of KZN and its sporting heroes as well. This passion goes right back to the early days when I started watching cricket at Kingsmead’s Castle Corner and when the likes of Barry Richards, Lee Irvine and Mike Proctor left the province I asked the question, ‘Why don’t local businesses sponsor local sportsmen?’.

“When Hirsch’s was able get involved with sponsorship, we sponsored individual players in our early days and are still involved with mentoring and sponsoring individuals today as well the Dolphins as a team,” he added.

An appliance repair man who became an entrepreneur, Hirsch and his wife, Margaret, started their family-run appliance business in a tiny showroom in Umhlanga Rocks Drive in 1979 with just R900 that they had saved.

“I am really pleased that Hirsch’s has agreed to extend their association with the Sunfoil Dolphins for a further two years,” said Sunfoil Dolphins CEO, Pete de Wet. Both Allan Hirsch himself and his Hirsch’s company have been loyal supporters of cricket at our franchise and the role that Allan plays in mentoring some younger players is an added, invaluable asset to our set up here in Durban.”
