Raiders smash Toti at home

The Pinetown Raiders took on their toughest rival, Amazimtoti at the weekend.

AT the weekend, the Pinetown Raiders rugby side thrashed Amanzimtoti 36-10 at Ashley Sports Club.

Of all games, the Raiders team were adamant to make this game the turning point for the season, and the committee cringed at the thought of the match as no one could remember the last time the team had beaten Amanzimtoti.

The game kicked off and the Raiders took an early lead with Phillip Pieterse making a break down the sideline, and with two support runners close behind, he drew first blood in the corner. The try was closely followed by a second from Phillip in the opposite corner. Toti was the master of the scrum on the day and they scored a well-deserved try. The Raiders team answered with a try from Lloyd Jansen van Vuuren before half-time.

The Raiders were fired up for the second half and each of the players was determined to score points. Phillip read the game well from the second half kick-off, which led to a try for Phila Duzane. The Toti side then forced their way over for a second try. Raiders’ eighth man, Leigh McNeill, scored a quick try from a breakdown with a clean steal of the ball. The last try came from Jandré Taute, who grabbed the ball in the backline and found himself with a truck-wide gap to the poles.

The final score was 36-10 to Pinetown Raiders and Jonathan Nortjé was named Man of the Match for the forwards and Phillip Pieterse for the backline for Pinetown.
