Hundreds lace up for TMC’s big walk

More than 1 000 people took part in this annual event hosted Thomas More College.

THOMAS More College recently hosted its 54th annual Long Walk.

This is the biggest event on the school’s calendar and this event truly marks the ‘esprit de corps’ (a feeling of pride by members of a group) at the school.

“It is about every participant setting their own goals and helping others to attain theirs. Months of planning goes into this event. The ultimate challenge is for the high school pupils to complete 80km, but they also have the option of 55km,” said Shane Cuthbertson, the school’s executive principal.

The senior primary school pupils walk 25km and the junior primary school pupils walk between 3km to 12km. There were about 700 volunteers on the day who helped with marshalling, logistics, medical and catering. There were 1559 registered walkers who took to the streets and 509 completed the 25km, 359 completed the 55km and 237 completed the 80km.
