Athletes complete Nosa Hillcrest Marathon

The organisers of the event, Hillcrest Villagers, thanked all the athletes who participated in Sunday's race.

MORE than 200 athletes participated in the annual Nosa Hillcrest Marathon in and around Hillcrest central and Winston Park on Sunday, 14 February.

The winners of the men’s 21.1km half-marathon were Garikai Madawo of Chatsworth Athletic Club, who finished 01:15:25 in the 35 to 39 age group. Michael Ndlovu of eThekwini AC won the 40 to 49 age group, Andrew Daly of Westville Athletic Club won the 50 to 59 age group, Tony Page of PDAC won the 60-plus age group.

Yadhvir Sewnarain of Verulam AC won the junior’s race and Stephan Conway of Yellowwood Park AC won the walking race.

In the women’s race, Janie Grundling of Boxer Super Store won the 35 to 39 category, Janene Carey of Boxer Super Store won the 40 to 49 category, Marietjie Montgomery of Faku Chiefs AC won the 50-59 category, Sandy Fismer of Hilton Harriers won the 60-plus category and Zelda Schultz of PDAC won the walking race.

The winners of the men’s 42.2km marathon were Kwakhiwakwawo Ngubane of Maxed Elite – KZN who finished 02:39:14 in the 35 to 39 age group. Alastair Leslie of Stella AC won the 40 to 49 category, Craig Anderson of Durban AC won the 50 to 59 category and Boysie Van Staden won the 60-plus category.

In the women’s race, Lisa Collett of Nedbank Running Club KZN won the 35 to 39 category, Patricia Dammann of Team Vitality KZN won the 40 to 49 category, Janine Goes of Dolphin Coast won the 50 to 59 category and Maureen Parry of Chiltern AC won the 60-plus category.

The race started under pleasant cool conditions but reached warmer conditions throughout the day. Entrants enjoyed the scenic residential route under the watchful eye of efficient and well-organised Metro Police and Hillcrest Running Club volunteer marshalling. The water stations were adequately stocked to ensure sufficient hydration for the athletes, specially under the hot conditions towards mid-morning.

The organisers of the event, Hillcrest Villagers, thanked Gillitts Metro traffic police for its fantastic support, and event medical services and all residents who travelled on the route during the event. Hillcrest Villagers also thanked all the athletes who participated and wished them well for a successful 2016 season.
