When he's not getting inked up or listening to Drake, Thandi Tshabalala is bamboozling batsmen and taking wickets.
Mthandeki Samson Tshabalala, or TT as he is known to teammates and Sunfoil Dolphins fans, is what one would call a rare breed in South African cricketing circles.
While South African cricket clubs have no shortage of pace bowlers, Tshabalala is one of the few quality spin bowlers on the domestic scene. The 30-year-old cricketer is best known for his right-arm offbreak, with an action similar to that of Indian spin kingpin Harbhajan Singh.
TT is no stranger to the domestic circuit, having previously played for the Free State Eagles before joining the Sunfoil Dolphins.
Since his domestic debut in 2003, he has built up an impressive cricketing resume across various formats. He currently stands on 105 first-class matches and 51 T20 matches. He averages a wicket once every 40.54 runs in the longer format, while in T20s he picks up a scalp every 19.35 runs.
The spin bowler has four One Day International caps to his name, all of which he received during the 2006-2007 season. And while he’s most established in his role as a slow bowler, he’s no mug with the bat either, averaging a shade under 17 runs an innings with a very respectable strike rate of 81.10.
Off the field TT cuts a relaxed figure and lists Drake amongst his favourite artists. His culinary preferences include seafood, sushi and chicken.
