Hillcrest Villagers receive praise

Hillcrest Villagers RC take on Westville Old Boys RC.

LAND Rover Durban Hillcrest Villagers RC hosted Westville Old Boys RC on Friday night at their home grounds at the Durban Shongweni Club. The first XV match was part of the quarter-finals of the Castle Junior Murray Cup Knockout Competition.

The game started with both sides competing heavily for territorial control, with Villagers quickly drawing first blood with a penalty from Villagers’ lock, Mitch Coe. It wasn’t long before the Villagers side kicked up a gear and a flurry of tries began to flow in favour of the upper Highway outfit.

While WOB were competitive in set pieces, the Villagers’ backs struck time and time again, with a final score of 66-15.

Villagers’ coach, Colin Paterson, praised his players but warned that a tougher opposition lies ahead in the cup semi-final. Villagers second XV were granted a walkover against WOB, and now also proceed through to the competition’s semi-final.

Try scorers: Alex Klewinghaus (three), Tommy Bezuidenhout (three), Gerhard Botha (two) and Michael Moxley.

Mitchell Coe kicked a penalty and nine conversions. Coe (forwards) and Tommy Bezuidenhout (backline) received the Man of the Match titles.
