Kearsney enjoys triple win on Founders’ Weekend

Kearsney celebrated three wins on the Founders' Weekend - two wins in rugby and hockey against Clifton and a third win against St Albans in hockey.

KEARSNEY College’s first team ended their rugby season on a high, beating Clifton 66-10 in a highly entertaining match in Botha’s Hill, coinciding with its Founders’ Weekend.

Kearsney dominated in the first half, with tries from Cian Waugh, three from Mitchell Nesbit and Cullen Waberski, and two from captain, Tristan Dixon, and Josh van Vuuren. Nesbit’s second try was a brilliant solo effort after collecting a box kick in his own half. He took on the advancing opposition and with strong running, stepping and swerving scored in the right corner. Flyhalf, James Tedder, converted all eight tries in the first half to take the half-time score to 56-0.

Clifton came out with renewed focus, scoring two tries, both unconverted. Kearsney regained composure and produced another two tries – Nesbit’s fourth and one from Brendan Vorster.The final score was 66-10 to Kearsney’s first XV, ending a successful day on the rugby field for the hosts.

In hockey news, Kearsney’s first team was in control of the game against Clifton’s first, winning 4-0 through goals from Luke de Vlieg, two from Ru Baker and the fourth from Matthew Butler. The second fixture of the day against St Albans from Pretoria proved to be another tough encounter, with the visitors recently having won their home league. But Kearsney came out strongly after some exciting play from both sides to take the fixture 3-2, ending the season on a double high.
