Hillcrest Villagers shows off winning skills

Check out the results for the games played at the weekend between Hillcrest Villagers and their opponents.

LAND Rover Durban Hillcrest Villagers were away to Ballito Dolphins at the weekend in a KZNRU first division encounter. Dolphins recently staged a comeback in performance, and are known to be strong on their home turf.

In the first division reserve match, from the onset, Villagers’ seconds soon kicked into gear and the scoreboard started to clock up in favour of the well-drilled upper Highway visitors, with Villagers scoring four tries, two of which were courtesy of their hard-working eighth man, Stephan Uys.

Villagers’ second XV coach, ‘Major’ Russ Booth, was proud of his lads’ 27-5 win, emphasising that the win was long overdue and well-earned.

In the main first division match of the afternoon, the clearly stronger Villagers first XV outfit was made to work very hard for their win. The ‘nuggety’ Dolphins side put in undoubtedly their best performance of the season, but were simply beaten by a harder and more determined Villagers side.

An early try from Villagers’ lock, Jaque get van Pittuis, opened the scoring. A momentarily lapse of concentration saw the Dolphins bounce back against the run of play with a converted try. Shortly thereafter, Villagers replied with a another converted try from Villagers’ ‘hardman’, scrummie Gerard Botha. Both tries were converted by Villagers’ lock, Mitch Coe.

Villagers’ vice-chairman, Nic Tyler, and Dolphins’ chairman, Kevin Murphy, were mutually complementary of each other’s club’s performances, yet acknowledging Hillcrest’s superiority on the day.

Envirosan Hillcrest Villagers’ third XV played Queensburgh second XV in Queensburgh on Saturday afternoon. Villagers were unlucky not to win, after being in the lead during the late second half. Villagers’ drew the game 17-17.
