Comrades legend to line up for 38th Comrades Marathon

Rob Collins is aiming to complete his 38th Comrades Marathon.

The legendary, Rob Collins will once again don his Hillcrest Villagers running kit as he attempts his 38th Comrades marathon!

Despite, the former upper highway resident moving to Cape Town in November, he is still determined to run and hopefully complete the race that he loves so much within the 12 hour cut off period.

“I will certainly try my very best at crossing the finish line in under the 12 hour cutoff but at the age of 70, it’s not a forgone conclusion. However, I will give it my best shot,” said Collins.

Moving to Cape Town hasn’t hampered his training schedule and his training has gone well albeit a bit slow. He has followed his normal program concentrating mainly on LSD. ( Long Slow Distance )

“Training in CT hasn’t differed much mainly because the weather has been very mild. Maybe a bit cooler than Hillcrest.”

He finished the 2014 Comrades in a time of 11hrs, 37minutes, 24 minutes before the cut off, achieving his goal of finishing the race within the allocated time allowance.

Rob’s best time was six hours and 44min in 1977 and he has 13 silver medals to his name.

In response to whether he will aim to complete 40 Comrades, Collins said, “Every days running is a huge bonus and I just take it day by day. Lining up at this years start will be a massive privilege, therefore I am not thinking any further than that at the moment.”
