Reine wins Pony Rider champs

After a serious fall a year ago, Reine Marshall, has made a glorious return to the equestrian world.

REINE Marshall won all three of the Pony Rider 1.10m classes that she entered on her pony, Jelly Tot, at the Spring Extravaganza Show hosted at the Durban Shongweni Club recently.

The classes included welcome stakes, precision and speed and the KZN Pony Rider Closed Show Jumping Championship.

She also won the Open Pony Victor Ludorum award.

This is a remarkable achievement as, a year ago, Reine suffered a fatal fall, where her pony rolled over her.

She broke one of her vertebrae and compressed two others. The doctor’s initial reports indicated that it would take six to 12 months before she could ride again.

However, with sheer will power and determination, Reine was back in the saddle after three months after her back operation and after this weekend’s achievements, it was evident that her injury was a thing of the past and she jumped to success with the constant guidance by her dedicated instructor, Graham Swanson.
