Kearsney bags double win against Clifton

Kearsney College beat Clifton College in cricket and basketball at the weekend.

KEARSNEY College had another successful weekend of sports against Clifton in cricket and basketball.

Kearsney’s 1st XI played their opening match of the new season at home on the Smith Oval and they did not disappoint. In fresh, overcast conditions they won the toss and elected to bowl. They did well to restrict Clifton to 162 runs in their allotted 50 overs (Koekemoer 4/26). The bowlers generally bowled a good line and the spinners effectively pegged back the Clifton batsmen.

Kearsney chased down the runs in convincing fashion to chalk up a good confidence-boosting win. Kearsney scored 166/3 (J Tedder 52 not out). Kearsney won by seven wickets.

It was a great day across the age groups for Kearsney, with all A sides beating Clifton and the 2nd XI beating Thomas More 1st XI by six wickets.

In basketball news, Kearsney’s 1st team travelled to Clifton College for the first game of the season. Kearsney played well considering that it was their first match and they were able to keep Clifton scoreless in the first half.

The coaches used the opportunity to rotate the new players and introduce them to the game at first team level. Albert Ojo-Aromokudu led the team on offence and captain Jeremy Maarschalk showed good leadership skills guiding the new players during the game and helping them with the transition into the 1st team.

Kearsney beat Clifton 63 – 4.
