Durban Roller Derby returns to Hillcrest

Expect bigger and better things at this top class roller derby bout.

ROLLER Derby fans are in for a big treat as Durban Roller Derby returns to Hillcrest this month with its Twisted Sisters Roller Derby bout.

Due to the popularity of the last sold out bout, the two teams of skaters, The MissFits and Eve’s KanEvils are amped and ready to give audiences an exciting battle.

“People can expect Roller derby on a whole new athletic level as our teams have been training really hard in the six months since our last bout. We are opening up our venue to more people and are adding 150 more seats to accommodate the demand for tickets,” said Szerdi Nagy, spokesman for Durban Derby.

The level of skating promises to be top class as this will be the first team on team officiated bout to be held in KZN and seven of the skaters have made it through to the final rounds of trials for the first National Roller Derby team which will be the first ever African team to be represented at the Roller Derby World Cup in Texas in December.

Nikki Fury from The MissFits said, “I am really looking forward to the bout, our team has been training really hard since the last one and we cant wait to show Durbanites a good time! Derby is an important part of my life and I wouldn”t have it any other way. I love the euphoric feeling I get skating around the track and the sense of pure awe that I’ve finally found a sport I’m good at.”

Sleeze (Eve’s KanEvils) added, “Super excited to play our second bout against our MissFits sisters. I love playing roller derby, its fun, hardcore and fantastic exercise. The uniforms are cool too.”

The event will take place at Hillcrest Primary School on Saturday, 24 May from 6.30pm.
