Big hopes for renovated track

The Lahee Park BMX track renovations have been completed.

THE Lahee Park Cycling Club recently renovated the existing BMX track and has big plans for its future use.

The track, which was abandoned many years ago, has found a new lease on life after the involvement of Fanie van der Walt of the Lahee Park Cycling Club and Tim O’ Brien of the KZN BMX.

They approached councillor Tim Brauteseth who in turn approved expenditure of R10 000 from the Friends of Lahee Park fund to start restoring the track.

“This project was recently completed and residents have already begun using the track,” said Brauteseth.

The use of the track is currently free and residents are encouraged to enjoy the facility.

According to Brauteseth, there are big plans for the track which has the potential to become a world class facility. It is anticipated that local, provincial and national competitions will be held at the Lahee Park BMX track.

“This renovation forms part of the positive developments at Lahee Park. In 2012, we started the Friends of Lahee Park fund and use the Oddball Olympics as the main fundraiser. Using the funds raised, which are kindly administered by the Lions Club of Cowies Hill, we have been able to provide financial assistance to clubs at Lahee Park to improve their facilities. This is all part of an initiative to improve Lahee Park to attract residents to enjoy the facilities with their families,” said Brauteseth.
