KHS pupil climbs wall of success

Fifteen-year-old Dale Rosser has taken up the challenge to compete against climbers that are two years his senior.

DALE Rosser, a 15-year-old pupil at Kloof High School, was a member of the South African team which participated in the International Federation of Sport Climbing World Youth Sport Climbing Championships in Central Saanich Canada recently.

Dale started his climbing career in Grade 8 at Kloof High School when he finished the year in 3rd place in KZN U15 section. The following year Dale improved to win in KZN and be placed fifth in SA U15.

This year Dale competed in the U17 section, which he said has been difficult as he’s one of the youngest climbers in his section. In spite of this, Dale was third in KZN in U17 and was successful at the SA trials. There he came second in SA U17 and was one of the three people chosen to represent South Africa in Canada.

The South African team faced formidable opponents who were far more experienced and none were placed in the Canadian competition. However, they have returned to South Africa ready to climb to far greater heights using the invaluable experience they received overseas.
