Hillcrest Roller Derby a sold out success

The bout between the T-birds and the Pink Ladies was a sold-out success.

KZN’s first ever Roller derby event held at Hillcrest Primary School was a massive success with the crowd getting behind the girls and encouraging them on.

The Grease themed event between T-birds and the Pink Ladies was the first bout ever held in KZN and only the fifth in South Africa.

The sold out event saw the crowd really getting into the spirit of the night as they cheered on their favourites.

By half time the T-birds were leading 146 to the Pink Ladies 102. The second half was extremely tough with the Pink ladies pulling out all the stops and blocking the T-birds but by the end of the game, the T-birds who had let consistently from the start won 241-224.

Best Jammer went to Nikki Fury (Nikki Howard) of the T-birds, Best Blocker went to Miss Bitchell (Michele Lardant) of the Pink Ladies and Most valuable Player was awarded to the vice captain of the T-Birds Capt’N Crash (Amy Bennett)

Thanks to the amazing response Durban Derby is looking to host their next event early next year.

“We were blown away when we realised the day before the bout our tickets had sold out and people were still desperate to get hold of tickets even on the day. The crowd was absolutely amazing and very responsive. They cheered the girls on and gave them extra fire under their skates,” said Szerdi Nagy, spokesperson for Durban Derby.
