Teachers to tackle Amashova for charity

Four teachers at benjamin Pine are ready to take on the arduous Amashova cycle raise to raise funds for Hope House.

BENJAMIN Pine Primary School pupil, Caitlin Nel’s selfless example has inspired four teachers at the school to cycle in the Amashova and raise funds for the local NPO, Hope House.

Caitlin, a Grade 6 pupil, said she volunteers at the home during the holidays and believes it to be be one of the worthiest of causes.

Hope House is a non-profit Christian home which cares for abandoned babies, from newborns to toddlers.

She hosted an 80s versus 90s fundraiser to a sold out Barnyard Theatre and raised a whopping R21 120 for Hope House.

Caitlin’s good will has inspired teachers Shannon Horrocks, Jessica Smith, Paula Harley and Megan Barkley to team up and cycle the half Amashova and do their bit for charity.

“I haven’t cycled since I was in primary school and I really don’t think I’m ready, but this is for a good cause and it will be nice to give back,” said Shannon.

The pupils at Benjamin Pine were tasked with writing suggestions of what the four teachers should wear while cycling in the race.

“Each pupil paid R5 to put a suggestion in the box, so far I have seen bikinis, princesses, fairies and minions from Despicable Me 2. As soon as the suggestion is drawn, all four of us will have to dress up in the chosen outfit choice.

“I am hoping that the Highway Mail readers will see this article and and contact Hope House and make a small donation to them.” said Shannon.
