Star pupil is swimming success

Fulton School for the Deaf's SPAR Star of the Month - Septmber 2013.

MARITZA Snyders (17), a Grade 11 pupil at Fulton School for the Deaf was nominated as the school’s SPAR Star of the Month.

The Green Heart City hosted the second Butterfly Beret Accolades in conjunction with eThekwini Municipality and the South African National Historical Society (SANS).

She received her accolade as a deaf aspiring Olympic swimmer who is both winning medals and breaking records. Maritza also represented KwaZulu-Natal at the SA Games in Limpopo in 2011 and received two gold and five silver medals.

The event took place at the Imagine Durban Sustainable Living Expo at the Durban Exhibition Centre on Saturday 7 September.

The Accolades recognise five youths, between 16 and 20 years old, who have contributed towards advancing the arts, heritage and ecology in the city of Durban and its surrounds. One of the five accolades is a youth achiever living with disabilities.
