Hillcrest Colts grab a mixed bag

Hillcrest Villagers Colts rakes in a mixed bag of results from its weekend games.

THE Hillcrest Villagers Colts had mixed results in the second round of the Durban Rugby Sub Union Youth Club Association (DRSUYCA) Colts league, hosted by Varsity College Old Boys at Riverside sports club on Sunday, .

The Hillcrest Under 13A and Under 13B teams went down to Collegians and Amabhubesi respectively, while the Hillcrest U15’s and U16’s both won their matches to put both teams on top of the respective log tables.

The Hillcrest U15’s took on a spirited Amanzimtoti side. With the scoreline 5-5 at halftime, the Hillcrest team had to dig deep to gain an advantage over its opponents. The Hillcrest team showed character to score 19 unanswered points in the second half to win the match 24-5 with a bonus point to boot.

The Hillcrest Under 16’s were up against the Jaguars and built on the momentum from the first round with another impressive 10 try score fest. This team has now scored 126 unanswered points in two matches and is certainly the early favourite for league honours. There were several standout players in the match but mention must be made of two backline speedsters Tagen Strydom and James Wheeler who both scored hat tricks on the day.
