Dear Editor – Make our roads great again

"I have a small vehicle that I use to commute to and from work and, over the years, the potholes on this road have caused damage to my suspension and this is very frustrating." - motorist

WINSTON Churchill Drive in Ashley, Pinetown is a busy main road used by many motorists, like myself, throughout the day as it is an access road to and from the M7 Highway, Caversham Road, as well as other streets in the area.

This road, however, is riddled with multiple potholes that I have been reporting for several years. I think, just to satisfy me, as I send them several reminders on my email, they mark a few and fill or patch them.

About three years ago, all other roads, in good condition, with less volume of traffic leading to Winston Churchill Drive, were re-surfaced and this was certainly not justified as priority. It was a case of fixing something that wasn’t broken.

Furthermore, I have a small vehicle that I use to commute to and from work and, over the years, the potholes on this road have caused damage to my suspension and this is very frustrating.

As a concerned citizen and motorist, I have been voluntarily reporting potholes, defective street lighting, overgrown bushes, illegal dumping, etc. in the past 20 years. My complaints are extended to all areas throughout Durban that I frequent.

Also, be mindful of a trench at light pole no. 27, which I reported at the end of May 2020 and has still not been repaired. I assume that it was the residents who used bricks and stones to fill the trench across the road as it was causing a huge obstruction.

Good roads matter
