THE recycling centre in Delamore Road, Hillcrest, reopened in July 2020 after three months of lockdown.
It is being very happily and successfully managed by Brad Speirs, who is also manager of The Upcyclers.
The aim is to encourage recycling, reuse and reduction – the three Rs that are as important as the three Rs we learn in Grade 1.

Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association (KHBA) is excited about the recent release of the National Waste Management Strategy 2020 by the Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment Barbara Creecy, which has the following strategy and aims:
“In line with the outcome-based planning approach of government, the strategy is premised on three (3) outcomes which will see a future South Africa with zero waste in landfills; cleaner communities, well managed and financially stable waste services, and a culture of zero tolerance of pollution, litter and illegal dumping.
These outcomes will be achieved through three (3) supporting pillars, namely Waste Minimisation; Effective and Sustainable Waste Services; Compliance, Enforcement and Awareness.”
KHBA is proud to say that it has, for 12 years, been a leader in Hillcrest in producing a cleaner community and contributing to waste minimisation.
