To contain the virus we must all do our bit

"There was poor and confusing communication which left most of the population uncertain as to the exact detail of some of the restrictions".

MOST people would applaud the Government for their quick reaction in introducing one of the harshest regimes in the world aimed at reducing the spread of Covid-19 which has shown some positive results.

Unfortunately it hasn’t been as well managed after that as it should have been. There was poor and confusing communication which left most of the population uncertain as to the exact detail of some of the restrictions.

Then there were the many anomalies and illogical requirements such as only closed-in shoes could be sold. Has a scientist told the Government that toes can spread the virus?

Why restrict outside exercise in level 4 to just 6am to 9am, thereby putting more joggers and walkers on the streets in this short period. It is plain to see, now that this has been extended under level 3, that suddenly there are far fewer people on the roads at any given time, which has diminished the risk of cross infection.

Too many ministers and official are allowed to be spokespeople for the Government regarding pandemic regulations resulting in contradictions and sometimes inaccurate information, which is not needed at a time of national emergency.

Not unlike the information coming out of the White House, one might add.

In the Gillitts/Winston Park area where I have been exercising, I have observed that many of the joggers and cyclists in particular believe that the wearing of a mask around the neck is the correct method to limit the spread of the virus.

With the exception of those who have had a tracheotomy tube fitted, this has to based purely on fake information.

It worries me, when I see this and images on the TV showing crowds of people, either demonstrating or shopping and who are clearly not observing social distancing or mask-wearing, that we could be in for a massive spike in infections because we are such a stupid and cavalier nation.
