Parking issues are a ‘Go!’

"By allowing expansion of buildings and increased development with reduced parking requirements, we are creating potential problems."

WE are very concerned that the delay in completion of the GO!Durban project will result in parking issues along the corridor.

There have been incentive and parking concessions given to applicants who want to develop along the C3 corridor. This is in line with the city’s densification strategy. This would have been perfectly fine if the GO!Durban project had been completed on time.

Businesses and residents who operate and live along the corridor would make use of the IRPTN (integrated rapid public transport network). With the GO!Durban project delayed, and no confirmation of a completion date provided, one has to wonder how this will impact the area.

While densification is not a bad thing, it must be done responsibly.

By allowing expansion of buildings and increased development with reduced parking requirements, we are creating potential problems.

This is already clearly evident wherever there already exists a shop or restaurant with insufficient or no parking. This leads to residents parking illegally and being fined.

However, it all starts with planning.

These are concerns the DA has raised within the economic development committee
