Licence renewal delay costs seniors

A Gillitts couple have been waiting for their driver's licences since June last year.

FURTHER to the letters published in the recent Highway Mail regarding poor service, I would certainly agree that many current services are either slow or virtually nonexistent.

As far as postal services are concerned, this week I received a letter posted in Melbourne in early June of last year. A transit time factor of almost seven months.

As far as driver”s licence renewal is concerned, my wife and I applied and paid in full for our licences to be renewed on 1 June 2018.

We have since made numerous visits to Camperdown and were told (in November) the documentation was completely satisfactory and that we should expect a collection date in mid-December as the paperwork was now in Pretoria being processed.

We are still waiting.

We messaged the 33214 number as suggested several times and the first time received the response “licenses in production”.

Since then three other messages have received no response. As a result both our actual licences are beyond the stated expiry date but as my wife and I have fulfilled all the necessary requirements in time I believe the reasons remaining for providing the renewed licences rests entirely with social services.

I believe social services to be totally responsible for the delay, hence it is unreasonable for my wife and I, both senior citizens, to pay R180 for extensions to fund the inefficiencies of the authorities.

It would be more reasonable for the authorities to issue an addendum to the original application receipt free of charge as the sole reason for the delay is entirely in their hands and their responsibility.

Still waiting
