Ban the heavies from the gorge

"In one situation it could have caused a serious accident."

I am a frequent traveller on Kloof Falls and Bridal Road, between Waterfall and Kloof.

This past week I observed three heavies on this stretch causing delays to many other vehicles.

In one situation it could have caused a serious accident. The first two trucks in mid-afternoon were within 1km of each other. The first heavy was near the top of Bridal Road with a string of cars behind it.

The second vehicle was a very long heavy truck with tons of long steel pipes on board. This vehicle was unable to take the bend coming out of the gorge and had to negotiate both sides of the road to get through.

This briefly blocked the road for users travelling towards Kloof and could have caused a very serious accident.

My wife was travelling the same route a few minutes after me. She said the same vehicle was then battling to get up Bridal Road and, as she continued towards Kloof, she noticed that the string of cars following were backed up as far as St Agnes Church.

A large cement-mixer truck was spotted coming through the gorge with a further string of cars behind it.

The heavy vehicles must be banned from this route before a serious accident does take place and for the convenience of all road users on this stretch of road.
