I disagree with Westville article headline

"This type of reporting has just maybe written millions of rand off property values in the whole of Westville as Westville is now perceived to be a "crime hot-spot".

MY letter refers to the article, ‘Armed robbers target Westville’, in the Highway Mail dated 26 January.

I take exception to the alarmist reporting of the armed robberies in the areas mentioned in your article.

Why make the issue so alarmist that the whole of Westville is “under siege”?

Unfortunately ordinary law abiding citizens/families have been affected by these thugs.

However, according to my knowledge of the area and Google Maps, all three of the incidents mentioned (Dunkeld/Kirriemuir/Winchester Drive) are all situated in or near Resevoir Hills (Westville North). This type of reporting has just maybe written millions of Rands off property values in the whole of Westville as Westville is now perceived to be a “crime hot-spot”.

The money does still not detract from the fact that innocent lives are lost.

It also detracts from the fact that Neighbourhood Watches/SAPS and the security companies are doing an excellent job in containing crime which over the months has dropped because of their efforts. Unfortunately, crime is a problem in the whole of our country and only a concerted effort by the authorities and the will of our politicians will be able to sort it out.
