Amashova Durban parking chaos

"Getting back out of Durban to the Highway area was equally frustrating with part of the N3 still closed and the M19 heavily congested."

THE organisers of the Amashova seem to miss the need for vehicles, coming to collect riders at the finish, to have somewhere designated to park.

It was total traffic chaos this past Sunday, 22 October when the bulk of the fun riders finished the 106km ride. Then to add to the unpleasant experience, getting back out of Durban to the Highway area was equally frustrating with part of the N3 still closed and the M19 heavily congested.

Sunday is busy in the race finish area anyway with regular beachfront visitors.

To add to the bad experience, someone tried to break into my car after it had taken us over an hour to find a parking anywhere near the finish to collect our tired rider.

There is a huge charity fund-raiser possibility if the organisers could identify an exclusive parking area for race support vehicles.

Many support vehicle drivers would be happy to pay for a coupon to park in an exclusive guarded area to collect their riders and bikes, more so if the payment supported a worthwhile charity.

The race brochure had drop-off spots marked at the start in Pietermaritzburg, but contained no such suggestions for the end of the race.

With roads closed off that probably need not have been closed at all, adding to a bad chaotic experience at an otherwise enjoyable cycle event.
