Open letter to ‘Devastated Student’

"Put your head into your books, and strive for that 100 percent pass mark."

FIRSTLY, I would like to point out that one goes to school to get an education.

Going to school doesn’t entitle anyone to wear what they choose, and that includes doing whatever they choose with their hair.

Schools have to have rules and discipline, which, unfortunately, is fast leaving this country, resulting in unruly behaviour from learners and varsity students.

Instead of concentrating on getting a 100 per cent pass mark, you are worried about what you should be “allowed to do with your hair”, and the little bit of discipline the school is dishing out – shame on you.

You talk about discrimination and racism – do you honestly believe that if other learners arrived at school with hair that didn’t conform to school rules they would be “let off the hook”? I don’t think so, so please get rid of the chip on your shoulder and put your head into your books, and strive for that 100 per cent pass mark.

Discipline and be damned
