EDITOR – I have a very valid gripe which needs to be addressed. The problem is one of the till prices being wrong in stores. I now make a point of checking each till slip I get and have found mistakes on at least five recent occasions, with one amount being more than R20.
This occurs mainly when there is a store ‘special’ and someone fails to record it on the till. With some of the larger stores averaging 4 000 customers per day or more, this error can amount to a great deal of money. It would be dangerous to name any store, but I don’t see anything wrong in warning the public to check their till slips before they leave the store.
I do understand that this is a national, and perhaps even international, problem. We were on holiday in the Drakensberg a few weeks ago and were nearly caught by a large store in the Midlands where we were actually served by the owner/manager.
