Thank you to the police

Police presence at busy intersections in Pinetown have made motorists' trips to and from work almost hassle free.

EDITOR – I would like to say a special and sincere thank you to the policemen and women manning the Josiah Gumede and Anderson Road intersection. It is such a relief for us motorists who use this intersection on a daily basis.

Before the police presence in this area, the chaos that reigned was unbelievable. It has always been and still is a commonplace that the taxis and buses have the monopoly of the road. Now that the roadworks on Anderson Road are complete, the extreme right lane turning into Josiah Gumede was a nightmare as the taxis travelling straight across obstructed the cars that were turning right. The long wait in traffic has also since been alleviated after police were deployed to this area.

One cannot help but admire these men and women who without a doubt put their lives at risk everyday. It only takes one loose cannon to misjudge the road and cause havoc. I witnessed a taxi driver who blatantly edged his vehicle forward after he was ordered to come to a complete stop by a police woman. He had to be reminded a second time. This type of behaviour is so unnecessary. All these behaviours also make life difficult for the police and other motorists.

One would say that we have efficient traffic lights in place, but believe me this is not enough when the flow of traffic is not a flow anymore. Thank you once again for making our trips to and from work almost hassle free.
